The Cambodian government has banned Thai fishermen from its territorial waters, opposition Puea Thai Party chairman Chavalit Yongchaiyudh claimed on Monday.

He said more than 1,000 Thai trawlers which normally fish there were being prevented from entering Cambodia's territorial waters.

He called on the Thai government to end this problem quickly, as many people's livelihoods wewre being affected.

"I don't know whether the problem has come about because of the Thai-Cambodian diplomatic row, and I don't want to make any predictions," Gen Chavalit said. "Former prime minister [Thaksin Shinawatra] and I are not the cause of the Thai-Cambodian row."

He said he was prepared to support the government in its efforts to help the Thai man arrested in Cambodia for alleged spying.

"If the government fails to resolve it, I am ready to give a hand since I've made a promise to the man's mother that I will help him and ensure his safety," he said.

On Nov 11, the Cambodian government arrested Cambodia Air Traffic Services (CATS) employee Siwarak Chutipong for allegedly stealing state secrets - Thaksin's flight plans - and posing a threat to national security.

Gen. Chavalit started this problem with Cambodia. He does not care about Thailand but more for his own aspiration to become Prime Minster again.

As usual the innocent Thaksin and also the master of intrigue Gen. Chavalit has never done anything wrong.
Cant we sent Gen. Chavalit to visit his many friends in Laos, Burma and China.

Perhaps Gen. Chavalits hidden agende is to make Thailand a one party country, just like his friend in the countries with a better rank on the corrution list than Thailand.

Dr Thaksin and Puea Thai are playing a dangerous game here. It is ok to put up an internal fight and deal in the local political arena but when you involve neighbors and destabilize relations between neighbors in order to achieve domestic political outcome is very dangerous to the Thai nation as a whole and is a reckless strategy.

While non Thai myself I feel a great sense of respect for the people and the nation and ask all those involved not in their personal struggles do things which worsen the situation for the people with their neighbours and the nation as a whole.

In doing this don't justify your actions as a natural response to the other sides but look at each and every step you take in isolation and free of a view on your opponents and decide wether that harms of the people. On this basis one will see that most of what has been done to date falls foul and is damaging.

Solution: Let Dr.Thaksin take his money, stop persecuting him allow him to come and fight on the local political arena and let democracy chart the course forward. He should then also stop and be held fully accountable for what he does after this and he and the Democrats and all those in politics are carefully monitored and scrutinised to ensure they behave ethically and morally correctly. For this to work one needs to strengthen election governance, fraud and corruption and stiffen penalties etc. In short answer only lies in True Democracy in which all players are on a level footing and in which power is not with the political power brokers but with the people.

"Thaksin and I are not the cause of the Cambodian-Thai row"

And the moon is just a block of cheese.

I guess this is in retaliation for tearing up the MoU, which included an agreement to negotiate a maritime boundary settlement. Guess Cambodia doesn't have to show any extra friendliness by letting Thais fish in undisputed Cambodian waters.

I suppose if this story gets any traction, we'll be treated to a yellow-shirted armada led by a flagship with a TV studio and loudspeakers, surrounded by armed Pad Guard battle scows.

Maybe the navy would consider chartering out their idled aircraft carrier for gas money.

The sad thing is, these are most likely near-subsistence fisherman, serving the both the nearby Thai and Cambodian markets.

The big money, wide-ranging fleets, with their trafficked slave crews, all have home ports in the Democrat strongholds on the western Gulf coast and the Andaman Sea.

Its well known that Thai offsore fishing trawlers go deep into Cambodian water to fish. The question is has Cambodia given them a concession to fish there?
