Puea Thai's 'olive-branch ultimatum'

The opposition Puea Thai Party on Thursday issued a statement calling for all sides to hold talks to explore ways to end political conflict and achieve peaceful reconciliation.

Plodprasop Surasawadi, a deputy Puea Thai leader, said the statement  followede discussions involving senior party figures who expressed grave concern over the situation.

Following the tragic events between April 10 and May 19 the Puea Thai Party had closely monitored the situation in the hope things  would return to normal.  The party found that the political conflict and ideological differences had become even more serious.

#20. Hi Marcus. You may be right, but I just don't think so. Only time will tell.

Whatever: Puea Thai does not want to talk with the government, they are only seeking media attention in an attempt to make people forget about their support of the redshirt terrorists.

Whatever you are correct on all three points. I would add for our Ozzie friend that the Democrats picked up 2 more seats in Bangkok not a crushing victory and the vote counts were very close in all ridings.

PTP_ does have the most MP's and polls all point to them picking up even more if not an outright majority if an election was held.

As for #3. Thailand is beginning to import food as things like sugar and eggs are in scarce supply and will not stabilize for some time because of weather problems. Sugar and eggs are Thailand's staple and are the two most important commodities in the rising inflation.

#20 Max Morgan did you see the recent election result in Bangkok? If so you're not too bright at analyzing voting patterns. Even with the PT candidate unable to meet the electorate, the election being in the Democratic stronghold, the weight and finances of the government, and total control of the media behind the Democrat candidate, the PT vote didn't go down. Hardly a devastating loss now is it

Isn't it typical of so many Democratic party and army apologists, to come on here and rubbish PT's statement. They were outraged that PT won't talk to the government and now they are cynical of the fact they now say they will.
    3 points here.
#1 The PT vote recently, held up very well in the Democrat stronghold of Bangkok.

#2 PT still have the most MP's.

#3 Isaan being Isolated, that's the silliest remark of all, the majority of the country come from North of Bangkok and where does all Thailand's food come from?

"olive branch. It can also be regarded as an ultimatum?" These guys don't understand the term 'olive branch" as it shouldn't be even be in the same sentence as ultimatum!

From the article: "discussions involving senior party figures who expressed grave concern over the situation."

"The situation" really means their devastating loss in the election and that their party is bleeding MPs at an exponential rate. LOL.

And what's even more funny than that is "Septic" at Disc. #7 & #14 putting lipstick on a pig, i.e., trying so desperately (just like the PTP) to characterize their grand drubbing by the people of Bangkok as a positive occurance for the losing party (PTP) -- sure it's good news alright, good news for the Democrats and the people of Bangkok (the winners).

I'm a bit surprised at the criticisms below. This is no different than Abhisits reconciliation plan - you're only against it because you're pro-Abhisit. Not because you've thought it through, or that you're even willing to listen to the other side.

More importantly, many of you fell for the media ploy of the recent elections. The elections were drummed up in the media only for Democrat home turf territory, where the results historically favored the Democrats. You think that because they won in small obscure local elections, obviously the entire country will vote Democrat - but hardly so. Its only propaganda, and you fell victim to it.

More empty words from Thai politicians. Opposition and government are no different.
