'Green boat' project sets sail

Noisy, black-smoke belching shuttle boats operating on Bangkok's canals may soon become a thing of the past if a joint project between City Hall and the Pollution Control Department proves successful.

Blackfumes andloud noise are typical of the boats operating in Bangkok’s khlongs, including this one in the Saen Saep canal. Pollution control and City Hall officials are joining hands to get rid of them. KOSOL NAKACHOL

Why not legislate that the operators MUST pass the noise and harmful emissions test if they want to operate.

Have a look how they do it in Venice... The water taxis are safer and quite... Particularly the mooring (landing to a pier) is smooth and secure. No gaps to fall in the water, no ropes... Even the disabled can use them...

How about doing something about the buses, trucks, 2-stroke motorbikes and pickups that belch a lot more smoke than these boats do, and affect the lives of a lot more people?
