Public called on to define brand Thailand

The government is launching its "Thailand in your mind" project as part of an attempt to invite citizen input on how brand Thailand should be promoted internationally.

Always on our minds Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva presides over the opening ceremony of the ‘‘Thailand in Your Mind’’ campaign initiated by the Foreign Ministry to restore the country’s image in the eyes of the world community. The campaign encourages Thais to vote from now until Sept 24 for the image they want Thailand to project internationally. CHANAT KATANYU

Those who write have been here so long that the magic is gone, especially when compared to the past. The first time is probably still magical for people. If you stay too long, the flaws show up. And yet how many would actually leave in spite of their grumbling?

Thailand was interesting and cheap. Now it is less interesting and not as cheap. Soon it will be boring and not a cheap destination. If you want top class service and clean beaches you do not come to Thailand.

Abhisit continues to disappoint me. How could he let himself be associated with this. This program may have had some merit at one time, but the current situation just makes this another scam.

The image of Thailand cannot be chosen or voted in.

Back in the old days when electronic communication was in it's infancy it may have worked to a point, but nowadays with all the channels available for instant information distribution by anyone and everyone you cannot contain the truth anymore.

People who both live and travel in Thailand are passing on their impressions of Thailand and this is unstoppable.

No type of PR campaign is going to change that.

If we look at the type of headlines Thailand has been making lately, what kind of image do you think it has earned ?
