Germans dig deep for coma victim

Germans have donated generously in the past week to bring home from Hat Yai a man who has been in a coma for 10 months and has almost no relatives left to help him, the city of Bamberg said on Friday.

SUPPORT: Comatose German citizen Mathias Koch, 39, from Bamberg, receives medical treatment at Songklanakarind Hospital in Hat Yai city, Songkhla province.

''We've been overwhelmed,'' said Franz Eibl, municipal spokesman in the southern German city, which has established a special bank account so people can transfer their donations directly.

I wish you all the best Mathias. I am thankful to the great city of Bamberg for finally taking matters in their own hands. I wish you the best recovery possible. A special thanks to all those who found it in their heart to donate.

Maybe if the embassies can cut back on their spending for one event they host, they could help raise some money. The embassy could also hold a fund raising during one of the events that they host.

  • great help

It is a scandal how the embassy can not look after their citizen.
10 month or 300days in the hospital in a foreign country. We mus say thank you to the hospital.

  • shame on you German bureaucrats!

An official at the German embassy said they had been involved with the case for some time and are in the process of finding solutions.

They are trying to find a solution? Since 10 month? What is wrong with these people?

They probably spend the same amount the emergency flight would cost on a cocktail party!

But this seems to be more and more the way western embassies treat their citizens!

Shame on you Germany - luckily the people of Bamberg and others show more compassion towards one of their own!
