PM welcomes peace offer

Puea Thai confirms need for reconciliation

Positive signs are emerging for reconciliation between the Democrat-led coalition government and the opposition Puea Thai Party as the two start to warm to the idea of renewing talks to end the political conflict.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said during his radio and television broadcast yesterday that Puea Thai's proposal for reconciliation was welcome news.

The broadcast was relayed from Shanghai where he was visiting to announce Thailand's bid to host the 2020 World Expo.

On the face of it, this statement from PT and the PM's response are a very welcome step forward.

The PAD reaction is totally predictable and should, and hopefully will, be ignored by the parties concerned.

PT and members of the coalition need to hold talks asap and establish common ground on moving Thai democracy forward.
