Boot Camps are not the solution for this kinds of problems. It makes rebels out of people, not law abiding citizens. Just like prisons who make even worse criminals. ----- By 'solving' the symptoms u wont get anywhere. It's the cause that must be focused on( lack of education, lack of a decent life, poor future perspectives, lack of decent employment, ...).

This proposal of the EM is just a very shortsighted vision on how to deal with it. Its more revenge and punishment than the whish to educate these violent students. In a way, these students are also victims of the thai injust and inequal society.

Typical Thai government solution. Send the trouble makers down south; out of sight, out of mind. How about the MOE take accountability for their failure to control the violence.

This ridiculous idea goes to convince me that, under the current 'leadership', the Education Ministry will continue to fail.

Typical stupid idea from high Thai official. Put them in jail with hard labor for a few years that will straighten them out. If they murder someone lock them up for life. Plain and simple.

Another example of the great Thai promotion system of selling positions to the highest bidder, neopotism, cronyism, instead of putting the most capable in positions of authority. Until what you know instead of who you know prevails, we'll keep getting these stupid ideas from at best mediocre officials.

Tough measures must be taken but the worst combination is: Army and Students... Nothing good can come out of that. I always wonder why the army is so much involved in Thai public civilian affairs. It'should not be their territory. It's a matter for law enforcement (Police and Justice authorities). Apart from that, if this - in my opinion - absurd idea would take shape, will the Minister of (re)Education take the responsibility if one of those violent boys dies by an insurgent attack? I doubt it...he would need to be educated for that.

Discussion 8 - I do agree with you that it is also am parenting problem but by the time anyone gets to a trade school they should know right from wrong if they grew up wealthy or poor. Once a child is this age the parents have little control of their actions.

I work every day teaching my son, 5, that whatever he does has consequences good or bad. When he does something really wrong I take the time to talk to him and ask why and if there would have been a better way to handle things. I make him think about his actions.

His cousin on the other hand, 6, does as he pleases and everyone is afraid to put their foot down and be consistent. He's going to be one of those Trade school kids in 10-12 years. All through his schooling he will be treated like a Thai male and learn nothing, that's an education problem both at home and at school.

Discussions 2-4-7-18 - RIGHT ON! How STUPID can Thai officials get!!! And if this decision is truly the result of a concession to popular opinion, it is just another example of how benighted the general population is as well. Obviously no one is in control of the situation and the wrong values are being taught both at home and at school.

Interesting!.....so South Thailand is nothing different from Guantanamo bay...Do Thai leaders ever look for some positive approach to make this south into a resential area rather than viewing it as a war zone area?....

It is obvious that "ricefieldraio" has never been a teacher in a Thai school. It is very easy, and typically Thai, to pass the blame to others whenever there is a problem. Try really "teaching" in a classroom with 60 students. Try really "teaching" in a system where 50% is a passing grade and nobody receives less than 50%.

If Thailand wants to improve the education system then build more schools so that classrooms can be a manageable size. Raise the standards and the salaries of all involved in education. Do away with "tea money" admissions. Make all uniforms exactly the same with no identifying pins nor abbreviations so that it is impossible to tell where students go to school. Involve parents in the system and make them accountable for the behavior of their children. After all, they are the first, and most important teachers.
