House panel invites Saudis to testify

The House committee on legal affairs, justice and human rights has invited Saudi charge d'affaires Nabil Ashri appear before them and give his opinion on the promotion of Pol Lt-Gen Somkid Boonthanom to assistant national police chief, committee chairman Pracha Prasopdee said on Tuesday.

The Police Commission last week appointed Provincial Police Region 5 Pol Lt-Gen Somkid to the rank of assistant national police chief.  The appointment has yet to be royally endorsed.

The appointment upset the Saudi embassy in Bangkok because Pol Lt-Gen Somkid has been indicted for alleged involvement in the disappearance of Saudi businessman Mohammad al-Ruwaili in 1990.

I would be very surprised if the Saudi charge d'affaires Nabil Ashri even responded to this so called ‘invitation’. They are smart enough to not get dragged into the squabbling Thai arena of political infighting. Thailand is the one needing to provide answers about the 20 year old, unsolved theft of Saudi Royal jewels and the subsequent murders. The way the Thai government has mismanaged the investigation begs answers from Thailand, not the Saudis. Due to the sensitivity of the issue, most governments would show respect and handle this behind the scenes and out of the limelight of the press. But, this is Thailand.

The Saudi envoy has already expressed his countries opinion on this matter.
"Complete these investigations and indict the criminals"
    Is Thai Government deaf?
