Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya says he has clarified the promotion of Pol Lt Gen Somkid Boonthanom to assistant national police chief in a meeting with the Saudi charge d'affaires.
Mr Kasit said Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban no longer needs to write to Riyadh to explain the move.
Pol Lt Gen Somkid was one of 11 senior police officers promoted last week by the Police Commission. He was indicted by the Office of the Attorney-General on Jan 12 along with four other active and former police officers in connection with the disappearance in 1990 of Saudi businessman Mohammad al-Ruwaili.
