The government is giving more recognition to the importance of non-governmental organisations in the battle to control malaria in the country's porous border areas.
Wichai Satimai, director of the Public Health Ministry's Bureau of Vector Borne Diseases (BVBD), said support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation had boosted human resources and equipment in the project to contain multi-drug-resistant malaria along the Thai-Cambodian border.
Noting that the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria was another key financial supporter of the cross-border project, Dr Wichai said: "We are asking Global Fund Round 10 to include 12 non-governmental organisations that work with us as grant recipients.
