Amateur radio operators answer call for assistance

Amateur radio operators in the flood-stricken areas of Nakhon Ratchasima and Chaiyaphum are helping authorities coordinate rescue and relief efforts.

The Nakhon Ratchasima Amateur Radio Association has set up a coordinating centre using the call sign HS3AN. The station, located at the provincial hall, has been working closely with government agencies, relaying details about the emergency situation and explaining problems to officials and relief workers so appropriate action can be promptly taken.

Association president Charnchai Siriamornpan, who uses the call sign HS4XU, said amateur radio operators had also pitched in to help soldiers, volunteers and foundation workers get food to flood victims and ferry pregnant mothers to hospital.
