Senator urges single emergency number

Legislators vetting the frequency allocation bill are proposing that Thailand adopt a single emergency hotline number similar to 911 in the US and Canada and 112 in Europe.

Senator Monthian Boontan said the task of introducing the number and coordinating emergency response services should be assigned to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission once it is established following the passage of the allocation bill.

The senator proposed the idea of a single emergency response hotline during a meeting last week of the joint parliamentary committee considering the frequency bill.
