PM rules out change to abortion laws

The grisly discovery of more than 2,000 foetuses at a Bangkok temple reflects the fact that unwanted pregnancies have become increasingly common, says Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Urgent steps are needed to help women, though the government will stop short of a law change making abortions easier to obtain, he said yesterday.

A total of 1,654 foetuses were found in two compartments of Wat Phai Ngern Chotanaram's morgue late Thursday night, just two days after 348 foetuses were discovered at the same morgue.
