PM calls meeting of security units

The prime minister has called a meeting of chiefs of security agencies at 4pm today at Government House to discuss the escalating southern unrest problem following the recent militants attack on a military camp in Narathiwat’s Rangae district where four soldiers were killed and several others injured.

Acting government spokesman Panitan Wattanayakorn said the cases of Veera Somkwamkid, a coordinator of the network, and his secretary Ratree Pipatanapaibul, facing charges with espionage will also be discussed.

Key figures called for the meeting included Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon, army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha and secretary general of the National Security Council.
