PM: Military must adapt in South

Changes must be made to the way government forces operate against the insurgency in the southern border provinces, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Friday.

Mr Abhisit was responding to questions about  Thursday's attack  by militants on a small Buddhist village which left five people dead  and four wounded  in Yala's Panare district.

He said he had discussed this matter with 4th Army commander Lt-Gen Udomchai Thammasarorat, and some adjustments must be made to counter-insurgency tactics.

“Ablazing Thailand”! Why can’t Thai politicians stop using the xenophobic/nationalistic card and act like the good Buddhists they claim to be? Civil war in the south with thousands killed, border disputes with Burma and now no compromise or “middle ground/path” with fellow Buddhist nation/neighbor to the east. Thailand has had the head start in development and is a wealthy nation in contrast with neighbors. Can’t there at least be a compromise?

Remove the dual nationality you remove the threat. Remove the malaysian business you remove the funding. Remove the military and let the local police take charge you remove the distrust.
