Keep your talismans close, boys

Army says troops need protection against Khmer black magic.

Si Sa Ket : The Thai army believes it needs the help of talismans to protect itself from Cambodian soldiers.

The chief of the 2nd Army Friday distributed talismans to his troops to help protect them from evil curses which he believes Cambodians are likely to call upon in their fight over disputed border areas.

As a result, soldiers guarding the border with Cambodia are now equipped with arms, life-saving kits - and talismans.

A brain would be more useful than amulets under these circumstances.

An assistant village headman was shot dead in an ambush in Narathiwat’s Rangae district on Saturday morning. Go to this link to read. http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/221202/assistant-village-chief-killed-in-narathiwat

In the South there are innocent teachers, monks, village headmen, soldiers and people are being killed by the rebels almost everyday. The rebels / separatists are fighting to have their own separate states, which meant Thailand could lose 3 provinces, but they are more interested and focus on the 4.6 square kilometers of dirt at the Cambodia border. Why are they not sending their tanks and F15 fighters to the south instead of to the Cambodia border? Why the Army chief is not distributing talismans to his troops to help protect in the south? Few thousands innocents people had already die in the south but nobody seems to care what is going on there even BP readers. You can see more of the comments are focus on the Cambodia disputes.

It’s so sad. What happen to this world and what happen to Thailand?

Talismans are equally as stupid and worthless as the childhood belief many had before sitting for school exams ...'A piece of glass and I will pass - A rusty nail and I will fail'.

RE discussion 30: if this was an American paper saying how the Chaplains were getting god to support their troops I would be writing the same sort of thing. Any type of god or magic is not going to stop a bullet!

Alot of comments are way off track. This report isn't about belief, it's about the supply of amulets to ward off black magic! On a battlefield, black magic takes the form of a 5.56mm FMJ. When UK soldiers were being killed in Afghanistan, the troops were issued with better transport and personal armour. Not amulets to ward off evil spirits. BTW Bob, you seem very assured about the outcome of an outright war! So going by your guidance, the Taliban should have lasted about 2 minutes against the combined might of the US, UK and the coalition of the good. Nearly ten years on and their still there. I doubt Thailand on it's own would have the stomach or resources to commit to that length of ordeal. In conclusion Bob "Please engage brain, before putting mouth in to gear".

children, children..learn to post nice with each other or you can not post together....It really doesn't matter if they believe they will protect them or not...it is up to them as individuals if they want to believe....no different than christian beliefs, muslim beliefs or whatever...it is really one sided of you and childish to tell any one what they believe in is wrong....If you believe in any religion and you are taught if you do not believe in that religion and that god you are going to hell...well since all of us are not of the same religion , then i guess we are all going to hell anyway...so let people wear what they want, if it makes them feel better.
