Cambodia turns to Asean

Thailand sticks to line of opposing outsiders

Thailand has rebuffed a plan by Cambodia to ask the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to send observers to monitor the shaky ceasefire along the border.

Hor Namhong: Thailand ignored UN

The move comes less than a week before foreign ministers from the Asean member countries meet in Jakarta where they will discuss the border spat.

    No Ceasefire, No intervention...? Great...
Keep this issue for our next generation.
We will have another PAD in 10 or 20 or 30 years from now on.
We will talk and talk, fight and fight to protect our land in another few decades...

But all in all.... Nothing change...It will always be the same...We get nothing back... but problems...

History tells us that observers only would ensure that the final border line is there where the troops staying now.
After some years of peaceful standoff where everyone is tired, the pressure would be that both county's accept the border as it is now because it has proofed to be as such accepted.
In that way it would be allowed to ignore facts again and draw a border where someone thinks it fits best and not based on what geographic shows us. Geographic is the major point of drawing borders today and this needs to be avoided ?

This request for observer goes in the good way for the respect of ceasefire and for the peace. The positions taken by Cambodia are simple, clear and logic. Positions taken by the Thailand are the one of a country which wants to move for advantages in the back of the international community.

Padthai, you said that this little land is part of Thailand, but what is your base to say that and what is the interest for Thailand to have this little plot of land?

John is right they have a lot to hide and everyone can now see who is the aggressor and who is not wanting to abide by any ruling that they do not like.

Making ASEAN is 10 countries, which is a big ASEAN family. ASEAN community must think about its creditbility rather than the former ASEAN 6 countries. There are CLMV within ASEAN 10 if i am not wrong think tank!
