Abhisit rejects Hun Sen's ceasefire plan

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has rejected Cambodia's proposal for the two countries to sign a ceasefire agreement.

The prime minister said it was too early to talk about such a move.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen proposed yesterday that Thailand and Cambodia sign a permanent ceasefire deal, witnessed by other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or the Asean chair, when Asean foreign ministers meet in Jakarta next Tuesday.

Answer #88 when shooting starts it is not gonna be only Thai who is shooting. That is why international law has 2 be respected. Reason and logic have to prevail passion. The battle harden KHmer soldiers've lived and fought on preah vihear for 30+ yrs. They will pick Thai invaders one by one like clay targets. Remember when Thailand used war to settle border issues with Lao. How disaster that was for Thailand

@#86 - no, that's NOT "OK". I'll remind you that you addressed your patronising comment "to all Khmer posters" and not just to the oddball. Would you say the same "to all Thai posters" or "to all farang posters" because a couple of them post delusional stuff?

Thai should defend her democracy and land at all cost. Hence Thailand should reserve the right to shoot at enermy when there is a threat.

Who in their right mind would want a pile of rubble that used to be a temple let alone risk all out war and killing people over it - unless there were ulterior motives we're not aware of. Seems some people who claim to be civilised are hell bent on returning to the stone age and dragging us with them. A famous philosopher never spoke a truer word when he said - "MAN'S INHUMANITY TO MAN MAKES COUNTLESS THOUSANDS MOURN".

peace168 and SteveCM: So it’s OK to make threats of bombing from Cambodia, or wherever he is really situated, as bopha99 has done in Discussion 48? “ I think you have to need a bunker near your house too. Bangkok is only about 200km from our border, do you really believe that we don’t have any weapon (long rang rocket or air craft) that can hit Bangkok? “

Maybe OK with you but totally out of order in my book. And my response to posters who advocated war to "get the temple back" is get back to negotiations and settle it that way, not war.

Discussion 79 - Maybe you could comment on the lack of feedback afforded by the Post's main competitor. As in Thailand most of the commenting in Cambodia is in the native language not English. I for one am happy that many non English speakers comment on this and other forums like Twitter and Facebook. Sometimes non Native English speakers don't have the subtle use of the language but for them to comment is always welcome by me even if I don't always agree.

mr.medrew, you would think that Tony Jaa is Thai as well and not Khmer Surin.

  • Discussion 82 : 20/02/2011 at 03:54 AM82

mr.meldrew, situation in Cambodia is more sensitive than we think. Phnom Penh does not want another event to take place in the country when an actress made a claim that Angkor Wat is Thai. For the safety of those 2 Thais in Phnom Penh and to operate according to the International Law, Phnom Penh is working in a very fine line. If a war ever break out, the fight will move further into Thailand not just the current location.

BK will determine what needs to be posted or not as SteveVM D76 stated.

Cambodia has just entered the new age, they have been in war for 30 years. There is infrastructure being built to make this possible. Through time, Phnom Penh will offer a similar privilege as BK. Peace and be a good educator to teach other.

Meldrew, i think BKP has its own screener over the posting. No need to appoint one. What PaD and red shirts do is Thai internal politics. PAD and splintered groups did is diffent they drag cambodia into this bloody mess. That is a fact my friend. Dont wanna get me on Thai has more free press vs khmer. How did the government suppressed red shirt protestors?

Discussion 77 : bopha99 Discussion 77 : Just because I’m anti “red shirt violence gonna take over your city, gonna burn you down, beat you up if you don’t agree with me” doesn’t make me PAD. I’m Farang. I don’t understand and never will but know that red is wrong. But that doesn’t make PAD in my book either. So where do I stand? On the side line just being so sad about Thailand ‘cus I love it.
