Hun Sen playing high stakes game

The government was hardly taken by surprise when Cambodia resorted to citing the International Court of Justice's 1962 ruling on ownership of Preah Vihear as the border dispute between the two sides unfolded this week.

The ICJ ruled that the temple belonged to Cambodia, but did not determine who owned the 4.6 square kilometres of surrounding land.

Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong raised the 1962 verdict at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting in New York on Monday.

Phnom Penh is kind enough to refer to the “Judgment Interpretation” and not the “Judgment Implementation”. They can have a full right to request the UNSC to send the force to make the Judgment respected. Thanks to their hospitality to not refer to the article 94-2 but only 96-1 of the UN Charter! The intended misrepresentation of the ruling by thai government for the last 50 years fool many thai that Preah Vihear and the disputed area are Thai.
The ICJ ruling gave a verdict on the Annex I map which did not follow the principle of watershed line which shows Prea Vihear and the disputed 4.78 km are in Cambodian territory. Cambodia will will reaffirmation the the 1962 ruling so thailand can refresh their memory again.

As always court is better than shooting to settle disput, Cambodia is ready if thailand is. 1962 ICJ ruling did settle the ownership of the now disputed area the court used the very same map (agreed jointly by Siamese Franco committee) showed Preah Vihear in Cambodian territory. This map also showed this now disputed area is in Cambodian territory. I advise Thailand to read the ruling again to refresh their memory. It is too long for this forum. cheer

Can it not be, that the ICJ made a mistake in 1962 ???
Or is it that a court can not be wrong ? ( infallible )
After nearly 50 years maybe the ICJ should again look at this case.

Good idea to get ICJ involved again. This time they will rule that the Prah Vihar and surrounding land belong to Thailand.
