Pumped up and dressed down, revellers hit the Songkran fray

Songkran celebrations took on the usual international flavour yesterday as people from around the world, including Malaysian visitors in the southernmost district of Betong in Yala to Burmese migrants in Ranong, revelled in the popular water festival.

The annual Battle of Khao San Road got underway in earnest yesterday as Songkran hit full stride in the capital. As usual, determined tourists and locals engaged in fast and furious running skirmishes, each refusing to give up territorial advantage. APICHART JINAKUL

Bangkok's Khao San Road, widely regarded as the wildest place to be for Songkran, has prompted other provinces to designate a road in the city centre for their own celebrations.

yep, i agree with it. some don't take the traffic rules seriously..i think in bangkok they obey the traffic rules quite well but in tambon, district upcountry. some don't have much awareness of road safety. that's why the accidents occur sharply. the related authority should pay more attention to this issue, otherwise we can't outrun other countries.

Well done Bangkok Post . . . . finaly something with pictures also.It was nice to see pictures from around Bkk and Thailand.Normally I would say that the web edition of the BP is one of the most boring in the world.Just dry boring text and nothing else.Keep up the good work and please use more pictures. Was fun though to read what they say about drink driving.I have Never in my 9 years in Thailand seen anyone checked for drink-driving,and a 6 months ban from driving ? that was a good laugh.Of the people I have met that drive cars only about 20% of them had a license . . . . Let us hope this changes.Have a happy and safe Song Kran.
