Xayaburi dam work begins on sly

THAI CONSTRUCTION GIANT, LAOS IGNORE MEKONG CONCERNS

Construction work around a controversial dam in Laos which is expected to provide cheap energy to Thailand is well underway despite the project not yet receiving official approval.

DIGGING IN: A backhoe digs the earth on a road leading to the proposed dam site, about 20km from Tha Dua pier.

An investigation by the Bangkok Post Sunday which visited the area surrounding the Xayaburi dam on the Lower Mekong River last week found major road works under construction and villagers preparing to be relocated.

EGAT is a highly corrupt and incompetent organization. If Thailand was governed for the benefit of the largest number of people we would look at alternative energies and prosecute these crooks. We can count on the present government for this never to happen.

Sowing the seeds of its own destruction. The later price will be higher. China has stopped contructing dams in many areas after people protested, those official were charged with corruption. In many areas where dams are contructed has turn to desert and this create sand storm that blow all over the city and capital. The economic damage is much higher and longer than the benefits of hydro electric.

it is too shameful to the Lao Government and the director for the dam that has to pay $15 U.S dollar to compensate the cost of villager to relocation. how sad it is for the people!, for most people they spend around $15 a day but for Laotian got compensated for a life time earning.

One thing missing from this article. Who are Ch Karnchang, who are so miserly paying $ 15 / 450 Bt to families who have to relocate.
What are the names of the directors, shareholders, and what are there addresses and phone numbers. Make the individuals who are clearly exploiting Laotian villlagers be exposed and held accountable for their greed and lack of consideration towards those whose home they would destroy purely for profit. Come on BP name them please ?
