Temple battle moves to court

Thailand, Cambodia put case for land rights

THE HAGUE : Thailand told the International Court of Justice yesterday Cambodia started the border fighting because it wanted to include Thai territory in its management plan for Preah Vihear temple.

Phnom Penh had never disputed Thailand's claim to land near the temple. But its stance changed after it succeeded in convincing UN's cultural body Unesco to list the temple as a World Heritage site in 2008, according to the Thai statement to the ICJ.

Thailand appeared in court in response to Phnom Penh's petition asking the ICJ to rule on whether the land surrounding the ancient Hindu temple belonged to Cambodia.

This is funny. They say that the Thai government do not do this and do not do that… but the Thai army does because they do not need an order from the government to do it! Moreover, the lawyer lye likes the government. But this time, this is not the Thai people who are in front of them, but an international court…

Just remember that ultra-nationalism is born out of the necessity to distract the people from serious internal problems by shifting their attention to external problems that usually do not even exist. The PAD has been amazingly good at this game of deceit, pretending to be protecting the highest institution and Thai soil, while in the meantime helping the military and so called democratic government curtail civil and human rights at an alarming speed.

Now we have a nation in decline, less physicians, less qualified professional, but plenty more corrupted politicians and military people. Now the miligary gets all the toys they want, even though they are not capable of mantaining them for any length of time. The only reason to have them is because the x percentasge of money they get to keep for themselves as part of these deals.

There are three scenarios that will result in the temple being returned to Thailand like the PAD wishfully think should happen:
    1. Cambodia has a change of heart and decides to let Thailand have it.
    2. Thailand takes back the temple by force.
    3. The ICJ reverses the verdict of the 1962 judgement.
What are the chances of any of these actually happens? Personally, I think there are two chances: slim and none.
Just don't start again with the 'they can have the temple but we keep the land' nonsense.
