Border villagers living in fear

Villagers along the Thai-Cambodian border in Surin's Phanom Dong Rak district are afraid the fighting may resume following Thailand's withdrawal from the World Heritage Convention, a military source said on Monday.

The source said they had packed  clothes, food and other necessities in preparation to evacuate to a safe location at short notice if Thai and Cambodian troops clash again.

Although there has been no fighting for nearly two months,  Thai soldiers are on watch for possible intrusions by Cambodian forces.

Prayuth is the one who has a War Switch. The Thai soldiers stay in the Thai soil and the Cambodian soldiers stay in the Cambodian soil, then there will be no war. If he uses the Hitler's style of expansionism, then the world will not tolerate such kind of behavior at all.

it is in PAD agenda. Parntep said if thailand no long a member of the WHC, then thailand has full right of going to war with Cambodia to protect sovereignty. that's why Prayuth gearing up the military build up along the border. I just doesn't know of when he will launch the attack at cambodian troop. I just hope not the day on election time.

The fact has been shown on the international event, and the real feeling of the people along border have been said out here. So pls wake up the AV gov't, PAD and also the army. Pls stop using Cambodia and the lives of the people along the border in your political game. We need peace as we used to have before AV gov't born in Thailand...

We do hope the new Thai government will restore the Thai dignity and fame. Abhisit and his cliques have turned the Thai society with hatred and broken. Also, the Thai reputation in the world community is down to subzero. Abhisit is dictated by the Thai Army as well as the Yellow Shirts. He is a clown of the PAD's theatre.

The real problem is that Thailand has created myths to lie the world so it would be hard to get away from it with honor. The world is considering Thailand's leaders as unprofessional liars and lack of politeness(madmen)at the Paris covention. The International Community knows so well that Preah Vihear does belong to Cambodia, and 4.6 sq. Km is just an imaginary territory from the Thai's Army own drawn map without recognition from the world body. As the Thai former PM said that the Thai Army along with the Yellow Shirts have pushed the unpopular Abbhisit's government leaders to do something that does not benefit Thailand as well as the Thai people, except to reduce tensions between the Thais of different colors, the government, and the army.

There will be no intrusion by Cambodian soldiers. Cambodia is a smaller and poorer country and we only fight to protect what we have right now. War will bring dead and destruction to all side no matter how big and powerful you are. Only those who are not in the front line that are not afraid of war. I personally feel sorry for those people on both side who live along the border. If the PAD want to fight, let them come to the front line instead of causing problem in Bangkok.

"They could not work long in their rice fields or plantations because they had been advised by soldiers to stay in their homes until at least 8am and return before 4pm.

Food and retail outlets had lost business because the Ta Muen Thom temple was still closed to tourists. Street lights were turned off at night and villagers were left in silence but sleepless, he said."

This has been my point ALL ALONG! The Dem's (military) are NOT very sensitive to the needs of real, average folk. AV sounds more & more like a severely out of touch politician.

D! ivyking: The quote speaks for itself... villagers FEAR more fighting because deaths & damage have already happened WHEN Thailand & Cambodia disagree. Can you understand these fears by those living there?
