Thai hopes high over temple row

ICJ decision on troop withdrawal due today

Thailand will find out this afternoon whether it will be ordered to withdraw its troops from around Preah Vihear temple, as demanded by Cambodia in the International Court of Justice.

The ICJ will hold a public hearing at the Peace Palace in The Hague at 3pm Thailand time, during which the president of the court, Judge Hisashi Owada, will read its deliberations on the issue.

The verdict will be based on the decision of the majority of its 15 judges.

#37: No democratic country will support a dictatorship led by x-Khmer Rouge commanders. Now Cambodia must depend on support from other dictator states like China, North Korea and Burma.

Well just heard, Thailand lost, court through out Thai's case and ICJ will back 1962 ICJ ruling, sounds also like the plane might stay on the ground a long time in Germany too

Khun Charliausa #37, whatever Obama said is highly irrelevant. The US is hopelessly broke financially. The US Navy has just announced a few days ago that it is laying off 3,000 sailors because of budgetary problem due to the on-going debt crisis. In addition, the US Military is spreading so thin with its major commitments in Afghanistan and Iraq. $14.6 trillions in debt is the US most serious problem, not a border skirmish halfway around the world between two SE Asian nations with neither oil nor nuclear weapons.

ICJ orders Cambodian troops off disputed land just like K.Abhisit demanded. Loooong nose for both Hun Sen and the fugitive ...

spiceman disc 34, you are wrong again in this issue. you need to start doing more research again. in fact for the US since the border conflict with cambodia, Obama seem to back away from Thailand, because of the arrogant attitude and aggression toward every body not to imagine the ASEAN and the ICJ. china no longer be friend with Thailand politically, perhaps only for business resource. if thailand don't give up the idea of being a big country with a big bully then will find itself a stand alone nation without a single friend in the region.

If the International Court of Justice orders Thailand to withdraw its troops from around Preah Vihear temple, as demanded by Cambodia, are we going to act like a spoiled broad again and leave the UN?

D: 34 why don't you count in your big brother ally, the US. Do you think China will take part in Thailand arrogant, foul affairs with its neighbors. China know clearly that Thailand is US ally. What China need to do is to collect money from any where as possible for its economic and military influence. I guess that there would be problem for Thailand to stand its feet on two boats at one time. In Cambodia China invests much more than Vietnam. You may know why China invest its resource in Cambodia.

Khun Hypocrisy #24, the quote is equally applicable to both the Reds and the Yellows from their own opposite perspectives, of course, and that's the problem.

It is also equally applicable to this ICJ nonsense over PV. If ICJ rules against Thailand, I say, let it enforce its own ruling, and see how many true friends and trading partners Thailand really has. I know for sure, we can always count on our big brother, China. I know Cambodia will always count on its big brother, Vietnam!

It is very good that Thailand have hired 3 foreign lawyers. Because apparently, there are no qualified lawyers in Thailand. IF Thailand have hired foreign expertise from start they have not been in this position to start with, which they are going to lose big times (legal, face loss, income).
