Abhisit passes ICJ torch

Next govt to decide on bilateral Cambodia talks

Outgoing Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the decision on bilateral negotiations between Thailand and Cambodia to comply with the International Court of Justice's ruling will rest with the next government.

Abhisit: Soldiers to stay for time being.

Mr Abhisit discussed the implication of the court's verdict ordering both Thailand and Cambodia to withdraw troops from a provisional demilitarised zone which the court defined around the Preah Vihear temple with security authorities, the Foreign Ministry and the Council of State yesterday.

This is sadly and yet another poor reporting by the BKK Post. Should just stick to basic fact (good reporting) and less insinuation and here say (poor reporting of so called "news"). The BKK adn the RTG (and the RTAF) continue to shoot itself int eh foot again and again. Its international standing (respectability) is so degraded now (since the coup) that its is so shamefully ad embarassingly pathetic.

The ICJ's decision, in plain lingo, is a great step for both Thailand and Cambodia, especially for the affected people along both common border. Both side MUST leave the area as soon as IO personnel arrival. Cambodia is ready and is also willing to comply (100%) while Thailand is still palying stupid games and not doing the right thing. Shameful indeed.

    Give peace a chance!

Kramom #20 - I don't think he should stay quiet at all. But he SHOULD be consistent in what he says in opposition and in government. Sadly, his record on that score is dire - compare his remarks about PM Somchai in October 2008 (PAD protest deaths) and his own defence of actions he took in April/May 2010.

"Too hot to handle". Yes, to my disappointment, Abhisit is not man enough to handle hot issues, a qualification required by the PM post. Thais knew that and they voted him out. I just hope he is man enough to stay quiet when the woman is handling the hot issue.

The headline should, of course, read: "Abhisit passes ICJ buck". Along with "HIOGAT", it's a specialty of his.

Nitnoi (#2) says: "Both already stated that its troops will remain at the NMZ."

Yes, we know that a Thai general has said that - and clearly Abhisit is delaying any move as long as possible (passing the buck to the next government). Please point out where Cambodia has said that it's troops will remain.

Has anyone on here actually been to the temple. If there was no temple there the land would be Thailand's. It's as simple as that.

Khmer gov't has alrd announced that they will remove their troops out of DMZ after Indonesia Observers has been sent to that region, so if Thai gov't is willing for peace, they will urge the observers to be there as fast as possible, to assure the security and peace for the people along the border, until the judgement in 1962 will have been interpreted, we'll know that to whom this land belong to...Just remember that, during this provisional measure, Thailand can not obstruct any free access of Cambodian to the temple.

Thailand should not continue to be held hostage by the ultra leftist group and made the situation more complicated. We did not lose land & face with this ICJ ruling and Ahbisit has accepted that PV belongs to Cambodia. Much can be gained with cooperation while confrontation not only mean lost opportunities but also casualties on both sides.
