TCEB seeing double over Expo bid logo

Thailand has stopped using its logo for the World Expo 2020 bid amid claims of plagiarism.

Pantip.com compares Brasil Telecom’s logo and the award-winning logo for the 2020 World Expo bid created by a Thai designer.

The graphic, which was submitted by Suphap Ruangsen, came under fire when similarities were noticed between it and the logo of Brasil Telecom.

The curvature of the Brazilian logo is indeed based on a globe and not a square as claimed. One would have to agree the intent of the design is in fact copied. I fail to see where this is a good design for a world expo? The design should capture world, expo, thailand, 2020 at first glance. This expo design captures possibly the world and nothing else. If you interviewed 100 people and showed the logo with no text, they would have no clue this is the Thailand Expo. Surely Thailand can do something much better?
