Worawat: Primary students will definitely get tablet PCs

Primary school pupils will receive free tablet computers, as promised during the Pheu Thai election campaign, and the procurement process will begin in the next academic year, Education Minister Worawat Ua-apinyakul said on Thursday.

He confirmed on Thursday that the Pheu Thai-led government will distribute free tablet computers to primary school students as promised, saying procurements were planned to begin in the next academic year.

Mr Worawat said the ministry will start working on a new curriculum and content for use with the PCs under the government’s One Tablet Per Child project.

disc 16:And how about when the TEACHERS are ready to teach something they know nothing about!)
they already do that, English teachers that cannot use English. When I asked my 4th grade son why his reading is not improving, he told me "they don't teach writing here, only reading words and not how to use them"
"well, maybe by taht time the internet will actually be available to all the areas in the north AND they might also have the electricity required"

If you knew anything at all about what is really going on in this country, you would know that in the early 200s, you know who followed up his promises and there IS electricity, internet connections and also paved roads in almost all villages now.

Right on, Ricefield I agree, and my 10 year old has been teaching me stuff I didn't know for a couple of years, and after a couple of downloaded viruses is actually cooperating with his ban and fetching daddy before he starts is

Oh come on what are you talking about. You are talking about logic and a well though out plan. Something the reds on here are incapable of.

Most tablet PCs are engineered in the US, Japan, and S. Korea, so my question to anyone is whether students in those countries are given free tablet PCs as part of their educational program by their Govts? If not, are we trying to put cart in front of horses, as it will go absolutely nowhere but a direction of Greece.

I love that you are so loyal to PTP but I think you are one of the most nieve people on here.
    You actually believe PTP's promises.
You say your son can type URL's he's seen. I presume he's been brought up in a bilingual environment.
Also I guess you don't know the Thai education system. I work in it. Get ready for this to cost you bundles.

Education Minister Worawat promised that they will block student's access to inappropriate information. Frightening that the new government will censor information for the children and feed them Puea Thaksin and redshirt propaganda via the tablets.

Disc 16 - Internet is available in most parts of the country and in those that are very remote there is Satellite and cell coverage. Even electricity isn't a problem, especially in Thailand. A few Photo Voltaic cells and you can charge and run a whole school worth of tablets at relatively low cost as the useful life of them is now over 20 years.

@rfhendrix. 'That is why they voted for the people who care about their welfare and improvement.'

Nonsense; Thaksin is a rich elite who only 'cared' about the poor as votes for his power: if he really cared he could have done so much more when he was PM.

Evidently the ability to play 'angry birds' effectively is more beneficial to the children of Thailand than 15 years free education and free school meals (at least for those lucky enough have electricity in their homes).
