NAKHON PHANOM : Police have filed six charges against three men accused of illegally transporting almost 2,000 dogs to Vietnam to be butchered for human consumption.

Nakhon Phanom administrative officers and police on Thursday arrested three suspects _ two Thais and a Vietnamese _ in separate operations near the Thai-Laos border.

The authorities found the first six-wheeled truck carrying about 600 live dogs on a road in Nakhon Phanom's Na Thom district.

Any person that feels offended should build Dog shelters for homeless Dogs in thailand or adopts 3 dogs each and show them cares and loves.Thai police should adopt one dog each if they feel the drivers of the trucks committed punishable crime and thai politicians should handout 5% of their monthly salary to house and feed the roaming homeless DOGS.

Another mans meat is another mans poison. The police should release the truck drivers and their products(DOGS).Dogs are roaming about the streets of thailand with dangerous diseases such as rabies,Infectious canine hepatitis and the city councils kept a blind eyes on them. This dogs are public Nuisance in thailand.Exporting those wandering, homeless dog to vietnam for comsumption is a clever options.Dog meats are delicious and vietnamese needs them in their menu. Its not a crime.

"Most Thais are Buddhist so they don't believe in euthanizing" This is the part I can not understand. They do not believe in euthanizing dogs, but they have no problem watching them die a slow painful death in the streets.

Sorry to say but these people are only doing what Thailand fails to do. Clean up their stray dog problem. After I hit one on my motorbike and broke my collarbone and many sleepless nights listening to them bark and fight I am happy to see them go. Just because some people like to eat them so what. To kill a animal for only sport is wrong. To eat what you kill is ok. We eat pig, cow, chickens. What is the difference?

I think Thailand should thank them for getting them off the street. This way more people aren't hurt.

    A few thoughts:
    - Many of the dogs could be sick and full of worms. Don't these people who eat these dogs even care about their heath?!
    - Many people in Thailand let their own dogs roam the sois and neighborhoods to eat trash. It's possible that a large number of them are stolen 'pets.'
    - Most Thais are Buddhist so they don't believe in euthanizing animals because it is likely to bring them bad karma. What they will do is crowd animals too tightly together and this brings on fighting, which results in injury and death. Injuries are usually left untreated if the keepers wish to 'depopulate' the dog community. Poison is another cheap method which is used reguarly by the rogues.
    - Sterization is necessary to decrease the stray dog problem, but very few people here will spend the money to do so even if they are rich!!!

Different sanctuaries should be set up where dogs ,elephants animals which are are paraded around for tourists can live in peace .These places could be visited by tourists not to ride the animals or take ridiculous pictures with them performing. Just as a sanctuary where no one is trying kill them sell them or eat them .

Good job Thailand for rescuing the dogs. Hopefully good homes can be found for them. If not, then hopefully they can be euthanized in a humane way to limit their suffering.

Yes, dogs are such wonderful creatures. Why doesn't everyone love them? Maybe it's because of this.
Two months ago I was riding my bicycle into the local village. A dog was lying in the road, so I altered my path to go around it. Just as I was passing it it jumped into my altered path and I ended up sprawled on the road with considerable road rash. Two weeks ago a neighbour had a similar experience on her motorbike. She ended up with facial lacerations and two broken teeth.
I've cycled in several countries. I've never had any problems with dogs in western Europe, Canada, US, Australia or New Zealand, because those countries control their stray dogs. The local animal control official (dog catcher) rounds them up and takes them to the pound where they are held for a month for possible adoption. If nobody adopts them, they are euthanized. Civilized countries control their feral animal populations. Thailand isn't there yet.
