Policemen accused of role in illegal tree felling

Eight police officers have been transferred and at least four others are likely to face arrest warrants for allegedly supporting the illegal logging of the highly-prized payoong, or rosewood, in the Northeast.

Pol Lt Gen Dechawat Ramsompop, commissioner of Provincial Police Region 3, said the eight policemen transferred were six commissioned and two non-commissioned officers.

The transfers were made after illegal loggers arrested in Nam Yuen district of Ubon Ratchathani province implicated them during questioning. Pol Lt Gen Dechawat said evidence showed the officers either supported or turned a blind eye to the illegal logging of rosewood.

"The arrested suspects also revealed that police officers and government officials from many agencies supported the illicit business." How many government officials were arrested? Just another case of Thai's in power will do anything under the sun to line their own pockets.

The police, military and government officials are responsible for 95% of the wrong doing in this country. Time to start cleaning house with serious jail time and heavy fines of those responsible

I think that we need more people on this forum who where around when Taksin was in power. If you think that corruption in the police force is going to get better under Yingkuck than you are very much mistaken. The only police that will be in moved are those aligned with the previous Democrat government.

THe problem is that the truth in this country is not important. What is important is control. This is why the poor majority are poor. If you look at what is being proposed by both sides of government you will see that the next method of controling the poor is debt. Thankyou to the marketers of this world for promoting this idea by the senseless advertising of huge amounts of things we do not need.

The western economies are having to deal with this problem now and I give it less then 10 years and Asia will be in the same predicament.

THIS IS NOTHING NEW IN THE THAI SOCIETY. THAI POLICE IS FOREVER AFRAID OF THE RICH AND POWERFUL BECAUSE THEY ARE THEIR REAL PAYMASTER, THE POOR IS THE DIRT!

No surprises here to learn that police are behind illegal activities, come on PM get to work on cleaning this mess up. If you have no one in country that will take on the task, get someone in who will just as the NSW Police did in Australia many years ago.

Hopefully the top brass involved will face jail time as the money always goes up the tree.
