The Thai Farmers Association is urging the government to set a paddy rice quota for farmers to prevent land owners from exploiting the rice mortgage scheme and leaving farmers broke.
Wichean Puanglamchiak, vice-president of Thai Farmers Association, said the government's idea to mortgage all paddy sounds good on the surface. But it will backfire in a matter of months.
"Most farmers do not have any farmland of their own and rent land for farming.

Govt pay-out, farmer say: Poor us, we didn't benefit, as the crop belong to the land owners (and not us). Flood came, farmer say: Poor us, did are badly hurt, as the crop belong to us (and not the land owners). get your story right farmers, you cannot always have the cake and eat it.

The farmers are not farmers. They are farm employee. They should be asking for 300 Baht per day from their respective employer.

The only people who ever made any money from rice farming are those in suits who never see a rice plant. It aint going to change until there is some honest government, don't hold your breath.

It will be interesting this time to see how much more rice is bought by the government than is grown on all the farms in Thailand.

How about teach farmers to grow more efficiently with less chemicals to get a higher yield and diversify their crop instead of trying to play god with market prices .Its obvious you dont know what your doing .Teach dont just throw other peoples money at a problem and expect it to go away .

This problem has been brought up time, after time, after time. The problem seems to be the fingers of the wealthy land owners in the ears of the government planners.
