AYUTTHAYA: A makeshift embankment at a bridge leading into a major industrial estate collapsed yesterday, allowing floodwaters to surge in, causing damages that could run up to 18 billion baht.

Cinbkk post 14 the police cannot patrol because they do not have the resources to do so. Also I think you may find in situations like this, that the police may often struggle to prevent looting as they did in America after hurricane Katrina wiped out new orleans or was it chigago?? whichever it was they had no chance of protecting everyone.

On Friday, Minister What Plodprasop guaranteed "The government also can prevent the floodwater from further flowing into the industrial estates in Ayutthaya province." Everybody else knew he was wrong to be so sure. He didn't, which makes him unsuitable for a responsible job like his.

Wonder if the Tourism Authority of Thailand is still claiming that Ayutthaya is still safe to visit and the floods have a "limited impact" on tourism.

It's sad to read that the police are again failing in their duty to protect people, in this case from the looting that is often a risk in these situations. In other countries police will patrol flood-stricke areas to prevent such crimes.
