The capital's 50 district offices have been told to prepare for evacuations as northern Bangkok's last line of defence is close to being breached by flood water.

The red alert was sent out by Bangkok governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra yesterday after inspecting the floodwall at Muang Ake housing estate in Pathum Thani's Muang district — less than 15km north of the city.

#29 - PTP is not "new to power." Their various incarnations have been in and out of power over the last decade and even as a minority in the parliament nothing was stopping them from dropping their nepotist power mongering and instead proposing movements to improve the haphazard infrastructure that has allowed this problem to occur. I blame ALL of Thailand's incompetent politicians - and let this be a lesson to the Thai people - put your faith in "democracy" get short-sighted pandering politics that leave you literally up to your neck in trouble.

Spiceman, I suppose you blamed the flooding in New Orleans in the U.S. on homosexuals living there or something? Why pray to God? If you believe in God, then apparently this is what God wants.

As far as the government goes, I think we should remain critical, but not pounce on PT too hard for the inability to deal with a once in 50+ year kind of flood 100% efficiently. Firstly, they are new in their positions in government and secondly, while I am sure many mistakes are being made every day, you can only hold them minimally responsible for something that exceeds the ability for any government to control. Mostly everyone it seems is doing the best they can on all sides given the circumstances.

This is man made catastrophe, drainage of swamps, clogged channels ... but not least, devastated forests.. thats the problems, but it takes 40 years to restore. Why no one in Thailand could cares less

Both Singapore and Malaysia have similar meteorological conditions similar to Thailand, but it is rare to hear that they have an intense flooding disaster. Malaysia adopts the "Smart Tunnel" system as a long term solution to combat with the heavy moonsoon rainfall. Perhaps it is about time for the Thai government to learn other countries' anti-flooding measures now.

the crisis for today is the problem from people of whom created yesterday by deforestation. forget what they did to themselves and the one that didn't create it. saving tree tree tree that mother nature already created for us all from getting the impact for today enviroment. I would shifted the blame straight right to the currupted politicians that let this happened at the first place. sorry folks perhap I'm wrong but at lease I want to point out the fact. the problem today it is a reality one. ( deforestation is a today problem for a modern society ) only rich and power people could do this.

It's time for Thai people to pray to God who created heavens and earth for mercy & forgiveness for destroying His forests up north. Only His miracle can save Thailand now.

D20 Sirron , interesting news about the Reds coming to help BKK and bypassing Ayutthaya.

Cynical me reckons Thida & Jatu freaked seeing photos of soldiers working hard with no red in sight.

I wonder are these bodies to pad the crowd at tonight's Lat Pro concert and for a photo opp tomorrow.

It must be getting harder to keep the red franchise relevant.
