Millions of people in the Thai capital nervously prepared for advancing and seemingly unstoppable floodwaters on Monday after residents in areas deemed most at threat were urged to leave.

People walk through floodwater in Bang Bua Thong on the outskirts of Bangkok. Millions of people in the Thai capital are nervously preparing for the advancing and seemingly unstoppable flood waters after residents in areas deemed most at threat were urged to leave.

Bangkok authorities warned that large volumes of water were flowing towards the low-lying capital and were closing in on six of Bangkok's 50 districts, including areas just north of the city centre.

Authorities have told people living by the Thaweewattana Klong to evacuate, Mahidol University is like 500 meters away from it, people living by the Klong has been moving all their belonging out with trucks the whole day today. Klong is still around 1 meters until it overflows from both sides of the gate.

If you travel 1km down the Klong, there is only 30-40cm left on some sides of the bank before it overflows.

I live in Mooban Somchai, just off Bang Kruai-Sai noi road. We've been under a meter of water in the roads and around 30-40 cm of water indoors for four days now. No one has given us the slightest attention. Garbage is mountain up on people's gates, or has already floated off. All the shops have run out of food, even on the main Bang Kruai - Sai Noi road, which is still perfectly drivable. I guess no one important lives round here. It was a different story last year, when people were building up to the elections. We do have electricity and water, which is one thing, but people are going to start running out of food soon unless someone decides to make a delivery to the local shops. My friends came from a non-flooded area, and brought me loads of water and food, so it seems that the non-flooded areas are having their shops steadily supplied. We haven't seen sight nor sound of anyone and it seems that Tesco, 7-11, et al have just decided they don't want their trucks getting wet wheels as it's a pain to clean.

As normal, the people in the street are still in good spirits, and everyone is helping each other out. As for the authorities in this area, well, I guess they already got their votes and are enjoying reading thoughtless, insensitive, facile articles about flood fashion in the Bangkok Post while they relax in their inner city mansions.

I hope everyone in inner city Bangkok is having a good time. You're welcome.
