Suvarnabhumi airport sure it can remain dry

Japanese experts fear impact of blackouts

Suvarnabhumi airport authorities are confident they can handle the flood crisis but a team of Japanese safety experts remains concerned about its power supply sustainability, which is key to flood drainage.

Wing Cdr Suk Puangthum, Suvarnabhumi airport's deputy general manager for maintenance, was confident that its 23.5km-long dyke could keep water out of the 32 sq km airport area.

The dyke has been increased in height to 3.5m above mean sea level from the previous level of 3m, Wing Cdr Suk said.

It shows the Thai people possess the technology to handle these floods. Now, they need to do it on a Country-wide scale.

"Did somebody say U-Tapao? Where is that? I need a big map and go on the chopper with my experts to find out, then I'll have a meeting and will confirm but only once Swamp-na-poom is flooded and if we will move there...to...U...Ta...something..or not?"

Samurai, it would be wishful thinking that these politicians could think of any forward thinking strategies, most of the time they are reactionary.

First of all, I would like to say thank you for you Thais about your warm support and donation for the earthquake this March.
however, our poor govt give Thai govt only $50000 for this tragety relief. It's just hundredth.
    What a shame!
That said, this news makes me relieved that we can contribute something good to help Thais in return of what you have done for us this March.
Hope this flood will end and pray for better days ahead.

I think FROC should start preparing U Tapao airport for a possible diversion should the floods hit Suwannaphum airport....or they haven't given it any thought at all??

banmebkk...The government has not reached out to foreign experts, the Japanese own the airport and MRT through their investment so they have a vested interest in keeping it safe.

Its good to hear the government is reaching out to foreign experts instead of trying to be a know it all like in the beginning.
