PM: Flood will recede early November

The flood water inundating outer areas of Bangkok is expected to start receding in the first week of November, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Saturday morning.

In her “Yingluck Government meets People” weekly talk show on radio stations under the supervision of the Public Relations Department, Ms Yingluck said Royal Irrigation Department has been assigned to rapidly drain the flood water out to the see through Khlong 6 to 13 in the eastern part.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have been directed to drive the northern runoff out through Khlong San Sab, she added.

bkk-farang D7, howell D10 - 230 people died from the massive flooding in 2010 - and it was hardly a record year of rain. If anything at all was done to prevent a re-occurence, perhaps the current situation wouldn't have happened.

How dose she know they will recede when she did not know they were coming,or she did know they were coming but did not tell anyone, what is it to be?

'Royal Irrigation Department has been assigned...'

'The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have been directed...'

'Royal Irrigation Department and Ministry of Transport are responsible...'

All under control and if it goes wrong those Departments and Ministries will be blamed. Nothing to do with the PTP government's failure to begin responding until a few weeks ago despite more than normal torrential rain and severe flooding for months.

The flood water inundating outer areas of Bangkok is expected to start receding in the first week of November, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Saturday morning.

Considering the amount of water still flowing from the north of Bangkok, yet to reach the city, I find it hard to believe what anyone might predict about the flood situation in the near or even distant future.

One thing I can say for sure. It is very likely to get a lot worse before it gets any better!

My prophesy carries as much knowledge and conviction as does hers. Believe who you like.

How can Yingluck make such a statement without degrees in geophysics and hydrometry? ... Maybe it's because the word 'recede' is relative and with floods now having done their worst, she wants to take control of a situation whereas hitherto, it was pandamonium, a no win situation for her and a case of heads you win, tails I lose... IT'S ALL ABOUT SAVING FACE!!!

@grumpy #5 asks: “Does anyone think the elitist Democrat Government could do any better.” Yes, I think they could do better, simply because they can’t be any worse than the current incompetent Shinawatra government.

On proviso that the flow from the North slows.

I would like to see all these so called ex spurts (experts) do better than the present PM.
Like all PM's, she is not or should not be expected to know everything. That is why they have Goverment Agencies such as the RID to advise and report. They are the ones who should know, but for them to know they must leave their plush Offices and get down and dirty.

Does anyone think the elitist Democrat Government could do any better.

Was it yesterday or the day before that she said we have to live with the flood in Bangkok for the next 4 to 6 weeks? Does anybody still believe any updates from FROC and the government?
