10,000 Burmese workers go home to escape floods

More than 10,000 Burmese migrant workers in Bangkok and surrounding provinces hit by flooding returned to their country yesterday, provincial police said.

More than 50 rented buses and 100 vans carrying about 10,000 legal and illegal Burmese workers headed to Huay Hin Fon border checkpoint on the Tak-Mae Sot road in Tak's Mae Sot district.

Most vehicles were loaded with belongings of those workers who fled the floods, said border authorities.
