BMA: Water receding, gradually

Floodwater has receded by one to four centimetres in several eastern and western districts of the capital city, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration spokesman Wasant Meewong said on Wednesday.

The districts where water had dropped by 1-4cm were Sai Mai, Bang Sue, Nong Chok, Lat Krabang, Khannayao, Lat Phrao, and Thawi Watthana.

In Bang Phlat district alone, the water level dropped another 10cm to about 40cm high.

@Disc 8 - Many people tend to over look the problem with deforestation, Thailand is a very green country populated by lots of large trees. Over the past decade, many of these large trees has been cut down. Thailand really needs to step up its efforts to protect their environment and natural beauty. Its very sad to see the poor condition of the seas surrounding beach destinations.

I hope everybody realizes that these floods have their origin in the deforestation going on in northern Thailand. Most of the logging is done illegally, the forestry department looking the other way in return for "favors"... Have you ever wondered why the forestry department is so rich?
As long as the land is covered by trees, they will absorb most of the heavy rains like a reservoir. Now they've been chopped down, the water just flows to the sea, causing the floods.

Disc 3. I live out at Klong 10 on the Nakhon Nayok Rd & their is still plenty of water in the fields between Nong Khae & Wang Noi thats got to go somewhere. Not sure where though.

I'll believe this is good news after the next high tides. And just for those of us who like maths, we do know how much water still has to pass through Bangkok and what the daily drainage capacity is, don't we?

Dis #2 They did a heck of a job to create a lot of it if you fully understand what was done prior to waters getting into Bangkok.

RID, PT, FROC and BMA should be roasted over hot coals for this disaster. The blame for the level and areas this flood has reached lies with all of they collectively. The idea of "Hey we will just push it here and push it there" defies any common sense or logic as the water never flowed that way before.

On a fresh note of ignorance. They announced the gov's rehab program today at my townhouse village in Bang Bua Thong. You have to go to the local gov office with certain papers and they are going to give you an incredible 5,000 baht to repair your house. You have 10 days to make the claim. Problem is 85 % of the people evacuated weeks ago and there is no chance 70cm of water in their homes will be gone and they will therefore not be back in time for this great sum of pocket change.

Let us have a qualified PM/Leader.

I would like to know how the powers that be now know how much water there is.2ks ago they did not seem to know or if they did they kept quiet.Either way it is is unfogivable and those who can vote should let this party know how they feel.I here people say the are doing there best well sorry best is not at all good enough more than 500 people have died.

Early days but welcome news - although still many days of pumping ahead. This is before the additional FROC pumps are fully deployed so once they are in place we should see faster progress - assuming no serious rain. We might be pleasantly surprised by the progress once the fields north of BKK start to drain naturally back in to the Chao Phraya which then cuts off the replenishment inflow into BKK - that point cannot be far away

Their should be no bashing of the BMA or Froc. They really are doing a heck of a job getting rid of all this water!

Again the mention of having to clear canals. What was all the money in the last 5 years spent on for water management. The canals were clogged for a long time and the gates, pumps etc did not work. If the system was suppose to work and suppose to handle this flood then why did it fail. It's not like they did not see this water comming. Investigation time in my opinion.
