Don Muang bags protest grows

Locals tackle floodwall; PM insists it will stay

Don Muang residents removed more of the "big bags" forming a floodwall on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road despite the prime minister's insistence that the barrier must stand.

Don Muang residents tear apart and remove big sand bags forming a barrier across Vibhavadi Rangsit Road near Don Mueang airport yesterday. The residents said making a gap in the sandbag wall will help drain away floodwater which is above 1 metre in some areas inside the barrier. PATTANAPONG HIRUNARD

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said yesterday the Flood Relief Operations Command (Froc) did not order the removal of the bags, weighing up to 2.5 tonnes each.

Make sure the flooding is shared with all those in Bangkok. After all if 800,000 are flooded then the other 12 million should be too, and at the same time it will get rid of ALL the foreigners left in Bangkok, because if Bangkok floods they will all leave, and take every bit of their money with them. Foreign money only accounts for about 22% of the Thai economy so it won't hurt anything.

Thailand can make it through the next year without any foreign money coming in, and everyone will make enough money from their homes being flooded they won't need a job for the next year. One week of water flooding all of Bangkok kills tourism for the next year, and quite a bit of the export market. It will make those thinking about long term investing to seriously think about the type of country they are investing in.

Isn't mob rule without the respect for laws, and the police just standing ny watching called anarchy? Does the PM still control anything? The people don't listen to her, the police don't listen to her, the MPs don't listen to her. Does she have any credibility left? Is she still going to Bali? This will really show those foreign investors what kind of country Thailand is to invest in now won't it.

I understand from this article that the police chief of Don Muang just stood and watched. Is there no 'rule of law' anymore in Thailand?

It would be nice to know who ordered the removal of these bags.

This government is rapidly descending into anarchy.

the flood and rain are the tears of the country of thailand
the way they treat the land and each other.
its the soul and the hart from a crying thailand.

It seems to me that Big Bags or not these residents would be flooded. Also that if the bags were removed the immediate benefit to these people would be negligible. If the bags prevent others from being flooded they should stay and the government should compensate the residence for their lengthened suffering. Maybe pay each household 500 baht for every day the bags are slowing down the water drainage. It would be just like the old days!

abbub..."invisible hand". That made me smile!!

It is a fact that Bangkok is more important than outside Bangkok. However, there is just so much that human can endure. I say let's have equal opportunity.

"He said people should listen to reason and share the burden of the floods."

The whole problem is that people are NOT sharing the burden.

Maybe if the government did it its job and talked to affected people and helped them find solutions people wouldnt be left to fend for themselves .Just telling people to be patient doesnt work .
