"Mr Anond said it was estimated that between one million and 1.5 million cu/m of water a day will pass through the 5m-wide gap in the big bag wall on Phahon Yothin, although City Hall's drainage system should be able to cope with the inflow."

So why not build the wall with the gap since the start? Why do citizens have to destroy it and violence to erupt before the officials can make the maths? Isn't this the reason why residents outside Bangkok get angry, because Bangkok is just shutting down the city for any water, rather than to accept to take as much as they can?

FACT D20: "Is anyone still claiming that this is not leaning towards "anarchy"?

Yes...this is not leaning toward anarchy. Poeple are fed up of having dictated to them from above.

And "anarchy" is sometimes good, sometimes bad. bad if you use the word in the sense it has been twisted and has nothing to do with real anarchy any longer.

One anecdote about a hospital does not sway the argument. It all has to be seen within the larger context.

Nobody is simplifying the problem to "poor vs elite". It is a question of attitude where Bangkokians in general feel justified in treating the rest of the country's population like second rate citizens. At the very least, the people who have been intentionally sacrificed under up to 2 meters of water should have been consulted. They were not even informed!

No government, no organisation, no plan, no respect for law = anarchy

Why the Admin from Bangkok not open a compensation refund for the peoples living on the other sites of the big bags dam? Isn't it fair only ,if every house(owner) inside the protectet area pays about 100k Baht for say thank you for safe us from the flood? I think this would be a sign of solidarism.
It is not much money for a owner of a house inside BKK.

Public property destruction, threats and now explosions.. Is anyone still claiming that this is not leaning towards "anarchy"?
The map I am looking at shows a hospital protected by the dyke near the breach for example, should the government let the water supply get damaged again too? Just because some people (sadly) end up on the wrong side of where the defense line was built? That would be the case wherever the barrier is built. Unless some are still arguing that the whole city of 11m should be flooded? Cutting all access for everyone, including relief and damage limitation efforts, ability to control and pump water.. I'm glad they're not in charge!

The claims that somehow one side of the barrier is poor and the other is the "elite bangkokians" is just bizarre. I'm pretty sure those who just got flooded for no benefit to those that caused it won't see it that way.

    No time to Fight !!

Don't only think of inner city Bkk people and there business, think of the people affected by Flood Residence and there Business !!

Why Save only Inner city of Bkk ? With the Big Sand Bag, water will keep staying at the flooded area for long long time.

Slowly take out the sand bags, let the water comes in to inner city, let the water flown to Chao praya river and other canels.

Don't Blame The Government, they are doing there Best, this is not man made flood !!

    1 People. 1 Nation. 1 Thailand !! Give a Hands, Help each others !!

    D13, Khunbill,

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression here.

I did't say or mean to say that Mr. T has something to do with this. I am most certainly not blaming him for "everything".

What I meant is that if the rumours are true, and he is brought back through the "backdoor" instead of through the proper justice system, Political and Social violence will break out (again).

niceday D10: Spot on....Why should the government give handouts, unless they are the cause of the flood in which case the unfortunate residents should join the group sueing the individuals involved for water mismanagement. They stand a better chance of a more realistic payout this way.

Charlie USA: I think you are talking about the capacity for the water shed to hold ground water. This sand comes from Sand stone in other areas of the country and once crushed holds a large amount of water. The sand stone did not, so any arguement you make about sand bags causing future flooding is mute and can quickly be disproven with real science. My family makes their money from the quarrying business in the US and ever so often we have a work stoppage because some Sierra Club A-hole decides to get a sympathic judge to approve a work stoppage in order to further investigate the environmental impact. The scientist at the University of Tennessee have done the research 3 times now and have a published report which you can find online. Creating the sand for the sand bags actually increases the water shed's capacity to hold ground water and will decrease the chances of future flooding in the capital.

Have a nice day and try researching your opinions next time.

Not enough daily information being provided by FROC and BMA about how much flood water is being drained into the sea, how much is left, how much is still coming in from the north etc.
