If I remember correctly, ministers are not allowed to run businesses and have to declare their assets. According to Bangkok Post, http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/politics/191552/govt-accused-of-devious-tactics-in-lawmakers-pay-rise
an MP's salary is about 71,000 per month. If Khon Saplom cannot prove how he acquired nearly 1 billion baht based on this salary, then he should be incarcerated until he can. The most obvious question is why, if this money were legal, would it not be in the bank, unless of course that would leave an audit trail.
So Bangkok Post, the role of the media is to bring this to the front page of the newspaper and open up this can of worms.

Such a large amount of cash is a bit like a cake at a wedding reception in that, while being cut, a few slices are bound to go missing.

The 700 billion bahts cash has to be shared among the minister, deputy minister, assistant secretary, other officers. After all, the permanent secrteary gets not much.

700 million in cash...I agree with factspeak where did the money come from?..."Oh I forgot it was the maids"...or he was keeping it safe for his wife who runs private businesses and keeps the petty cash at home. If this sort of thing happened in the west there would be a senate inquiry..yet in Thailand the opposite happens ..no wonder the public cant trust their leaders..its a farce..

lol: "they found between 700 million baht to 1 billion baht in cash stuffed into bags"

Is anyone going to ask where "transport permanent secretary Supoj Saplom" got all this money from??
Can't wait to hear why anyone would have money lying around like this! Groceries or petty cash?
No wonder people don't trust government officials to have their best interest at heart!
