Hundreds demand sluice gates to be opened

Flood-hit residents in Bangkok's Don Muang and Nonthaburi rallied yesterday, demanding the government speed up the drainage of floodwater from their communities.

Still soaked
Flood levels remain high in many communities in Don Muang district after several weeks of flooding, prompting residents to demand better flood drainage. Flood victims yesterday threatened a protest if the waters do not recede significantly in three days.

The village of Bua Thong in the Bang Bua Thong district of Nonthaburi is about 2.5 sq km and has about 15,000 residents. As of yesterday there are 16 dead from electrical shock, 1 death from heart attack and 2 dead from a senseless argument between boat taxi drivers. This is not red shirt country. They have been heavily flooded over a month now. The water here won't get your gucci shoes wet Bangkok, drain it out FROC. Stop building the house from the roof down. Such incompetence on display in the mishandling of this disaster. You want to cry out 'Mob Rule' be my guest but some one has got to rule and if no one else will then mob rule wins.

"block the road in front of the provincial hall demanding.." and "said they would listen to responses from agencies tomorrow" - that's the way to do it, credit to them for not just trying to destroy things blindly, I hope the BMA explains its decision properly to them, no matter what it is. They still "threatened to destroy the dykes", but still an improvement?

"They also demanded the repair of dykes in Bang Bua Thong district to block the inflow of floodwater and the installation of pumps to discharge floodwater from the districts of Nonthaburi." - that seems entirely fair! As the flood levels start to recede, the pumping capacity should increase for areas still flooded.
All in all, I think these are reasonable demands and I think that if the BMA explains it rationale to them it, an understanding/arrangement can be achieved. Or am I being to optimistic?

BP: the word from the flood experts would be interesting to read, or better a summary, but I can't find it.

Dis 9 go drown for the common good. You have yet to make an intelligent remark.
As the wise man said, "Tis better that people think you are a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

There were 100's and 100's of flood photos from Pathumthani and Rangsit on www.visualthailand.com. Unless you live here, and have been dry in Bangkok all these months, you have no idea how much or how deep the water really is and how bad we have had it for months. Not only that, the stores are only now starting to get food aftre months of nothing on the shelf.

    At D9,
Seems to me that you think that the lives of some 600 people that have die because
of the flooding is ok, by your statment and i quote
"Nonthaburi is NOT Bangkok. Let them flood, for the sake of common good"

It's people like you that make me sick.

Disc #1: I am tired of hearing it also, being referred to as the "Red Shirt Mob" in Don Muang. Here are two of my videos of my house in Don Muang and the roads in the area taken on Friday. People of inner Bangkok can now see the REAL situation in Don Muang and see how difficult it is to live in. There are millions of mosquitos now due to the standing water.

You can see these videos on youtube at:

As you will see, we are travelling by boat. On the video where we are leaving the village, there were 12 people on the boat, so you can imagine the weight of it and how deep the water must be in order to be able to keep the boat afloat and using a motorized engine.

Maybe now you understand why we the residents are angry. Maybe now you will understand why we want additional compensation. Maybe now you understand why 4 weeks of being flooded like this is unacceptable. We are suffering, yet we are called the mob?

LAZAR: If that is true my condolences. If not, your comment is not funny.

Mr. Sukhumbhand and the other officals just talk and talk. Their actions tell the truth. Now that Bangkok is protected from the flood waters they seem to stop helping others. As long as they can keep the water out of Bangkok then all their rich buddys are happy. Sorry for the outside people they will just have to wait until the water goes in the ground. Maybe months.
