Lese majeste change rests with parliament

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says that any proposed changes to the lese majeste law would need to pass through the parliamentary process, adding her government would concentrate on tackling economic problems.

Her remarks follow growing calls for an amendment to the law, Section 112 of the Criminal Code.

Section 112 says those who defame, insult or threaten His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen, the heir-apparent or the regent shall be subject to between three and 15 years in jail. Critics say it is being misused for political ends in an attempt to stifle freedom of speech.
