Cambodia offers to exchange prisoners

PHNOM PENH : Cambodia has offered to exchange high-profile jailed Thai activists Veera Somkwamkid and Ratree Pipattanapaibun with Cambodian prisoners in Thailand.

Hor Namhong: No royal pardon

The offer was raised during talks between Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong in Phnom Penh yesterday.

It is believed that decision of freeing the two PAD's is entirely up to Cambodian PM, whose personality is hardly to forget those who are against him. PAD is one of them. So to get that deal done, Thailand needs to deal directly with Hun Sen. Thaksin can help! But remember, PAD is also against Thaksin.

Logical step since prison swap is cover under the Geneva Convention. The International Red Cross can assist since Veera is quite sick. However will still have to undergo some legal process and parliment approval. Might be the only time that PT and DP voted in concert in parliment.

"After my son confirmed with the court that he and Ratree would not appeal, I think that Veera and Ratree might be free today and return to Thailand with me. I hope that Mr Surapong can ask for a royal pardon," Mrs Wilaiwan said."

Serious actions have serious consequences. While I empathize with the plight of your child, what she did was a serious breach of International Law. Where is the contrition (apology)?

According to this article the process of finding & processing Cambodians who might qualify for an exchange is complicated. I personally do not see them being released any time soon.
