Police believe terror suspect roaming city

11 embassies issue travel alert

Police are hunting a terror suspect believed to be at large in Bangkok as the number of foreign embassies issuing travel warnings to Thailand increased to 11 Saturday.

Late on Friday night police released a sketch of a man suspected of entering Thailand to launch terrorist attacks, hours after Atris Hussein, a Swedish-Lebanese man with suspected links to the Hezbollah militant group, was apprehended by Thai police at Suvarnabhumi airport.

The suspect is a white Middle-Eastern man who is about 180cm tall with short hair and stubble. Those who believe they may have spotted the suspect are being urged to report to the nearest police station or call 191, said police spokesman Piya Uthayo.

Don't worry, in a few weeks his tourist visa will expire and then he'll really be in big trouble!

Discussion 43 bangmodker: "...that embassies have not consulted the Foreign Ministry according to diplomatic convention before issuing the warnings."

Ministry of Foreign Affairs have a set of guidelines to deal with this kind of case. It can be assure to say that Surapong knows more better in handling this affair than all the commentators here including you and me.

Bangmodker: Chasing down a small group of individuals in a city where thousands upon thousands of Muslims live normal lives is an example of Islamophobia? Is that really what you think is going on here? I suggest you go look up the definition of "Islamophobia" as well as the word "suspect". Also, it helps to actually read the articles that you comment on.

Aww...Phujai Surapong is disappointed. How sad. Maybe the embassies would have contacted him,the foreign minister,if he could speak just a little english.
D35 : The guy that was apprehended was > SUSPECTED < of links with Hezbollah. These links haven't been confirmed by anyone so he might as well be totally innocent though that fact obviously do not bother any commentors here. Islamophobia seems to be thriving.

Maybe the embassies did knock on the fake FM's door, but as usual there was no one home. Or he was hiding in the khazi coz his english language interpreter was on a day off.

Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, who said Saturday that he was "disappointed" that embassies have not consulted the Foreign Ministry according to diplomatic convention before issuing the warnings".

Why would they bother to consult him ? They know he is a merely a Thaksin appointed family member and not a real FM.

Can i say that terrorists never cancel an attack, they have already achived there aim to inflict terror and distruption. They could also target other areas other than Bangkok.
I fully understand about terrorism and the consequences of such acts, i was on duty in manchester when the city centre was litarally blown up by a large van load of explosive in 1996.
So its not just the capital that should be on alert its all major cities.
I just do not want any lives lost and the quicker they capture all involved the better.
