BoT: Eurozone downgrade won't hurt

The Thai economy would not be affected by Standard&Poor's decision to cut the credit ratings of nine eurozone nations, Bank of Thailand (BoT) governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul said on Monday.

"After the downgrade, the value of the Thai baht today  weakened against the US dollar but it is in line with other currencies in the region.

"The baht has not depreciated to a worrying level," Mr Prasarn said.

The Thai Baht has already appreciated around 5-6 % against the Euro and in the same time lost a bit on the USD ... so Thai products are now a bit less competitive in the Eurozone and a bit more competitive in USD dominated world ...

We've given some numbers to the banks to consider etc etc. Lets bet , the numbers were not to reduce the rates-right

What happens to sensible people when they get an important job that makes them imagine their words make the humble prai grateful for the blessing of their new found wisdom.

How about saying: We have been saddled with a massive debt. We will deal with it by raising rates, sorry.
