The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has submitted a list of Kanchanaburi politicians to police to investigate if they are involved in the smuggling of a female elephant from a wildlife sanctuary in Ratchaburi.
Department chief Damrong Pidech has alleged the group of politicians had colluded with officials in Ratchaburi and a businessman in Saraburi in the smuggling of the elephant.
Patrolling rangers seized the five-year-old jumbo from a group of Karen smugglers on Tuesday. One Karenni was killed in a gunfight between the two groups.
