PT eyes Bangkok governor vote

The Pheu Thai Party is gearing up for an election to choose a new Bangkok governor, possibly by the end of this year, if MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra steps down early, says deputy party spokesman Jirayu Huangsap.

Mr Jirayu said the party's assessment was that MR Sukhumbhand might resign before completing his four-year term in January next year.

MR Sukhumbhand of the Democrat Party was elected the 15th governor of Bangkok on Jan 11, 2009 by a large margin, winning 45% of the votes cast.

With all this consolidation of power, I wonder if PT has any working groups to spare on something like, oh I don't know, education reform? Improving water management so the country isn't drown later this year? You know, things people actually need to maintain and improve their lives?

This time PT will field a powerfull team with former singers,actors and failed businesmen. Bangkok watch out.I was shocked,that PT did not mention Arisman,a sure winner.He could play the guitar and sing with Sam on stage the famous song "ring of fire".

Sure if those majority got some brains, if you do know, please remember that in democracy "majority rule and minority right"if those minority only know how to burn their own country i would prefer to go with communist!!

Putting forward a candidate who was part of FROC is one way to lose, another is for the pir opponents to remind everyone who burnt down Ratchaprasong. The people of a bangkok aren't going to forget that one in a hurry, just like the poor haven't forgotten Thaksin's handouts.

Well B'bob, when it comes to double standards I recall your ranting about how the PTP did not win a clear majority. The BKK governor seems to have gotten nay 45%.

Having said that and knowing how BKK is a democrat/PAD/miltary stronghold I would be surprised if the PTP managed to wrestle the position away at the polls.

Either way, the PTP is becoming just a lot of hot air with a big hole in their balloon now.

With the threats to the governor the other day, and now this timeline it sure sounds like the Thaksin PT government is going to sabatage Bangkok with flooding this coming season to make the governor fail.

He is the only one that stopped the flooding, and now Thaksin, and the PT party want to drown him in the next floods. Why else would they demand he cooperate with their failed flood plans? Something does not sound good about that.

He, and his staff should very instrumental in the planning, not someone threatened if he doesn't follow their plan.

So, the party that is againt coups and against independent commissions like the election commission having any authority over elected officials, now is threatening to remove the elected governor of Bangkok, one of the very few elected governors in the country. Can you say "double standards?"

Our governor fought for Bangkok in the face of complete FROC uselessness .The only strike the government could have against him is he isnt a PT zombie listening to Thaksin in Dubai .

Hmm! The interior minister said only yesterday that he'll dismiss the governor, and now they're telling us that they've started preparing for an election. Good riddance.
