pheakdey D19-The main reason the 'lawmakers' and 'law enforcement' (eg politicians and police) don't want to make it legal is it will be a lot more difficult to make money out of it. Easier to take the cash right now than try and follow the money once it has been turned into tax payers funds.

Keeping gambling illegal is counterproductive and for sure does not improve the moral standing of the people. They will find illegal dens or go abroad, but definitely continue gambling as it is in their blood. Tourists will go to destinations where gambling is legal, (e.g. Malaysia, Macao etc.). Huge potential revenues are lost for the country to illegal operators. As the illegal operation requires a lot of bribes on all different levels, - once more there is no political will and for sure no interest from the profiting parties to change the situation.

gambling is a big business these days, if people want to gamble their money they still find their way to gamble anyway and why not make it legal so the government can collect the revenue from the gambling dents for the state or city. anything that illegal there always big money get involved with the corrupted politicians by far as everyone has known. drug, gambling, prostitution.

I agree with Phetpeter. Chuvit has told police where to go and they always draw a blank. It is time for him to change tack.

Instead of announcing these places in cryptic terms he needs to just load journos he trusts, with cameras, into a bus and take them straight to a casino. Let Chalerm deny the existence of the place then.

And regardless why he is doing it Fundeena, the fact remains he is and it needs to be acted on and not ridiculed by unsubstantiated claims of motive.

"Local residents always know where gambling dens are, but the police have not seen them," Mr Chuvit said.
It is amazing how locals can see them but the police can not! Maybe this is in police training.
"You see a casino. Look the other way"

Police have already closed down all major casinos in the capital, he said.

Any proof? has anyone seen these casinos closed down? Remember the main reason for sacking the head of the police was because he let casinos run in Bangkok.
Nothing to do with the fact Taksin's brother-in-law wanted the job.
If there are any casinos running then he should loose his position to.
And please take Chalerm Yubamrung with you

I dont really like Chuwit but I like what he is doing .He should invite the the whole media to show up all at once at each casino unannounced and then camp out live till the police bust the casino . Its funny that the police chief would worry about looking bad .As police chief he should be thanking Chuwit for the tips .After all its his job .Ekamai soi 30 has many casinos .

Every law that forbids something is a pay raise for the police.

  • Discussion 6 : 31/01/2012 at 07:22 AM6

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, who supervises the Royal Thai Police, claimed the pictures of the casino held by Mr Chuvit were in fact small seasonal gambling establishments.

What a statement to make. Is that meant small seasonal gambling establishments in legal in Thailand?
