Thai prisons are overcrowded and wardens are absolutely corrupt. Isn't it more urgent issue to fix than drug problem ?
"Police lauched major raid on corrupt prison officials" should be more like it !

The drug dealers in Bang Kwang are the small fry, the major drug dealers are outside. How are we to believe that the small drug dealers, operating in prison conditions, are a greater cause of drug problems than the drug dealers outside?
The haul from the search in a huge prison is insignificant.
Besides, prisoners should be provided with access to some land lines to phone outside, to maintain family connections and relationships with friends. Yes, it is done elsewhere and can be done here too.

A pathetic waste of tax payers' money for an empty show that facilitates deeper corruption and the rape of Thai citizens by their own government and officials.

Why is this current administration so hell-bent on going after drug dealers and not the 1,000's of other corrupt officials who financially rape this Nation? To go from the Democrat's administration where drug dealers were never the main concern of the government, to this government where drug dealers ARE the main concern, there is more to this story than is being told. This administration seems to have a real fear of drug dealers, even resorting to extrajudicial means to stamp them out.

What's the betting that things will be back to "normal" within a month?

"They seized 40,470 baht in cash, some crystal methamphetamine, or ya ice, 39 smuggled mobile phones, 20 sets of gambling paraphernalia and 27 items of pornography"

"Prison chiefs who are unable to stamp out illicit drugs in their jails are being urged to seek transfers, Justice Minister Pracha Promnok suggested during a meeting with commanders of prisons across the country yesterday."

Why should corrupt wardens/prison bosses be given the option of being transferred out a lucrative source of tea money....they should be sacked.

Prisons here have long been seething with crime and corruption, not a corrections facility.

Thai dogs could be trained to be sniffer dogs and could find drugs in slums ,jails ,cars coming from the north and where ever else the drugs are hidden .The dogs might enjoy it more than being loaded on trucks to be eaten in Vietnam.

"Prison chiefs who are unable to stamp out illicit drugs in their jails are being urged to seek transfers..."

Does this make sense, to transfer the incompetent... or should they be fired?

Seriously, these problems resulting from smuggling are common to prisons around the world. The USA has many illegal cell phones in prisons. Efforts to block signals often disrupt locals and thus it is not such a good solution.

Just throw a tennisball full of drugs over the walls. By that I can say that there are other problems than corrupt wardens.

  • Discussion 2 : 04/02/2012 at 07:20 AM2

Old news, this happens as long as there are prisons. Nothing comes inside without the help of corrupt wardens, simple as that, everything has a price. Just another show for the gullible.
