Thammasat ban under attack

University 'abandoning its social responsibility'

Academics associated with Thammasat University have criticised its ban on the Nitirat group's activities on its premises as an abandonment of social responsibility.

Speaking at a seminar on Pridi Banomyong and Thammasat University, former dean of law Panas Tassaneyanond cited the ban as reflecting a crisis of academic standards in Thailand.

He said Thammasat University has served as an arena for political debates since its establishment. That is why the ruling power has tried to impose control over the university's administration.
